A Reuters article from Sun-Sentinel.com states that chemicals used to make non-stick coatings on cookware and to waterproof fabrics may raise levels of cholesterol in children.
Researcher Stephanie Frisbee of West Virginia University and her colleagues examined cholesterol levels that were 4.6 points higher and LDL levels that were 3.8 points higher than those with the lowest levels of PFOA.
PFOA is ingested in many ways such as through drinking water, dust, food packaging, air and occupational exposure and many more. Additionally the study used more than 12,000 children that had PFOA in their drinking water.

Baby food picks may affect health later
The importance of knowing how to feed our babies and especially how to introduce the proper balance of nutrition is key to their development and future well being. Here is an article touching on this very important subject.
"UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa., July 16 (UPI) -- Healthy dietary choices during infancy may promote lifelong healthy eating, U.S. researchers suggest.
Lead researcher Jennifer Savage of Pennsylvania State University's Center for Childhood Obesity Research says the study finds teaching first-time parents to feed their babies "responsively" promoted higher acceptance of vegetables and novel foods by the infants. The children exhibited more healthful eating and improved growth patterns."

Make Health a Habit, Starting With These Tips
By Deanna Embury, Postmedia News; For The Vancouver Province July 19, 2010
"Old habits are hard to break -- but it can be done.
Be realistic with your expectations and make changes a few at a time rather than trying to change everything all at once. Adopt three or four of the following 10 healthy nutrition tips a month.
Healthy eating can become a habit in just 12 weeks.
1. Balance your meals
Eat lean protein, nutrient-rich carbohydrates (whole grains, fruits and vegetables) and non-saturated fats at every meal. The protein helps build and repair muscle; the carbohydrates replenish energy stores without elevating blood sugar; and healthy fats assure your body that there's more fuel coming in, giving it the OK to burn stored fat.
2. Eat breakfast every day
Don't skip breakfast. Not only does it jump start your metabolism, but it also gives you the energy you need to get through the day. Researchers at Harvard University found that those who ate breakfast every day were 44 per cent less likely to be overweight.
3. Drink water
Water will help you to lose weight because it flushes out the waste products your body makes when it breaks down fat for energy or processes protein."

Caricoʼs Air Filter Offers Powerful Protection
Caricoʼs Nutri-Tech Air Purification System is the high tech solution to indoor air pollution. This modern appliance contains ten different stages that address a variety of contemporary contaminents: tobacco smoke, cooking odors, dust mite allergens, pet dander, mold spores and chemical odors just to name a few. At the heart of the filter cartridge is a H.E.P.A. (High efficiency particulate air) filter that removes the smallest of particles, just like they do in hospitals.
The powerful motor will clean 800 square feet, twice per hour. Just look at the how quickly this unit cleans the air. To illustrate this we put the air filter in an acrylic box and filled it with smoke. Then we turned on Caricoʼs Nutri-Tech Air Purification System and you can see the results for yourself.

Carico’s Professional Collection is the "State of the Art Cutlery"
Here is a definition of each of the knives in the Carico Collection:
Chef Knife, 8 inch/10 inch
The most versatile knife. It is used for cutting, slicing, chopping, and mincing. The curved blade allows rocking back and forth for fine chopping and mincing. This knife allows you to remove membranes from meat and meat from bones easily.
8 inch scalloped Utility Knife
The scalloped edges make neat work of slicing softer foods such as bread, tomatoes and cake.
10 inch Scalloped Slicer
The scallops will give a much cleaner cut. The scallops help reduce crumbing when slicing real bread and cake sponge The right knife for slicing through tough crust items. Due to the construction and design the cutting edge is protected by the scallops and the cutting edge does not touch the cutting board surface.
Carving Fork
It anchors the meat, making it easier and less messy to cut.
Paring Knife
The paring knife is great for working a blade in a small space. Paring apples, cutting fruits, butter flying shrimp, and seeding a jalapeno.
10 inch Carving Knife
Cleanly and efficiently cuts through meats to carve poultry, roasts, and hams after they have been cooked.
Bread Knife
The proper knife for cutting crusty and soft breads. A slicer or chef's knife cannot effectively dig in and grip the bread when you start to cut.
Meat Cleaver
Quickly cuts cleanly through meat and bone. Great for cutting a part a whole chicken, bone and meat.
Scalloped Trimming Knife
This knife, is used for cleanly cutting meat off bones. It is a favorite for poultry, and is utilized with brief, slicing strokes.
6 inch Fish Filet Knife
Sharp and fairly stiff, with plenty of strength for bones, yet flexible enough to remove the skin from fillets. It’s a simple, let’s-get-the-job-done knife.
7 inch Santoku Knife
The length and shape of the blade makes slicing, dicing and chopping super easy and the style of knife provides great balance, accuracy and handling. Although the blade is shorter and wider than a Chef's knife. The 'granton edge' releases food very well and cutting thin even slices of cheese is easily accomplished.

Americans Are Getting Fat & Reducing their Life Span
According to a recent study in the International Journal of Obesity, Americans are becoming obese earlier in life thus experiencing a greater duration of obesity over their lifetime. This trend may accelerate the prevalence of type 2 diabetes across the
U.S. population.
The information was gathered from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Surveys (NHANES) from 1971-2006 or over the course of 35 years. The study concluded that “Increasing cumulative exposure to excess weight over the lifetime of recent birth cohorts will likely have profound implications for future rates of type 2 diabetes and mortality in the U.S.”
At Carico, we like to remind people that they do have a choice in the foods they eat and how theyʼre prepared. With Caricoʼs Ultra-Tech II, you can prepare a delicious meal in a very short amount of time. Eating slowly is better for you
According to a New York Times article on Sun-Sentinel.com, eating food at a slower pace causes people to feel full sooner and consume less calories.
The report stems from 2 distinct studies which stated that eating slower releases more hormones and was responsible for making people feel satiated faster which leads to eating less.
In a 2008 study published in The Journal of the American Dietetic Association, subjects felt full quicker and consumed 10 percent less calories.
Conversely in another study by The British Medical Journal, people who ate quickly until they felt full, had triple the risk of being overweight.
In addition to eating slowly, we recommend using Caricoʼs waterless and greaseless cookware, Ultra-Tech II. Itʼs easy to use, easy to clean and seals in all the vitamins, nutrients and flavor.
